| Mark began his NBA
coaching career in 1996 as an assistant
coach with the Charlotte Hornets. During
his tenure with the club, the Hornets
owned a 180-116 (.608) record including
two 50+ win seasons in 1996-97 and
1997-98 and three playoff appearances. Mark and Cavaliers
Head Coach Paul Silas worked together as
assistants for two seasons in Charlotte
from 1997-99 under Dave Cowens. He
remained on the coaching staff when Silas
was promoted to head coach midway through
the 1998-99 season and continued as an
assistant during Silas first full
season as Hornets head coach in
1999-2000.
Mark
joined the Hornets staff after serving as
a head coach and assistant for the
Connecticut Pride of the Continental
Basketball Association (CBA) during the
1995-96 season. He was also an assistant
coach for two seasons from 1993-95 with
the Rapid City Thrillers of the CBA.
During that span, Mark helped the team to
the playoffs in both seasons and served
as an assistant coach at the 1994 CBA
All-Star Game in Fort Wayne.
From
1991-95, Mark coached in the Southern
California Pro League and was named Coach
of the Year in 1992 after leading his
team to the League Championship. His
coaching career began in 1985-86 as an
assistant coach at the Wentworth
Institute of Technology in Boston. He
then coached basketball and football at
LHS for four seasons. Mark returned to
the collegiate level in 1990 as an
assistant coach at Division II Assumption
College in Worcester, where he helped
coach the team to the NCAA Northeast
Regional Championship Game on two
occasions.
Mark
conducted the Mark Osowski Pro
Basketball Camp for Boys and Girls
in Leominster, for eight years. During
his last two summers, he was selected by
the National Basketball Coaches
Association to work at the Dirk Nowitzki
Basketball Academy held in Munich,
Germany. He also was a member of the
coaching staff at Centered," a
camp held throughout New England that
specializes in big man instruction.
Mark was a
1985 graduate of the University of
Massachusetts where he earned a degree in
Business Communication. As a collegiate
player at Dean College (1981-83), he was
a two-year starter and served one season
as team captain. He earned a Master's
Degree in Counseling from Fitchburg State
College in 1990.
Mark
sponsored the Catherine Osowski Memorial
Scholarship to a LHS graduate who pursued
a career in the nursing/health care
field. He was born on February 14, 1963
in Leominster.
Regarding
his days in Leominster, Marks said,
"Our (high school team) team went
15-6 my senior year and made the
districts losing to Holy Name. I played
in the Bennett Summer League as a
sophomore in high school through age 30
when we moved out of Massachusetts. It
was a great experience."
